I met my husband, Su Min Chou, over 46 years ago at the University of Utah.  I remember our first meeting in the university library where I was immediately struck by how gentlemanly and handsome he was.  We started dating immediately and got married two and half years later.  During our 43 years of marriage, my husband always protected me, took care of me, and loved me.  His support for me was always unwavering.  During my career as a scientist at NIH, my husband accompanied me on almost every trip that I took.  He joined me on these trips to make sure that everything went smoothly and that nothing bad would happen to me.  And throughout our life together, he constantly strived to make me feel secure, happy, and loved.  After the birth of our two sons, Danny and Stephen, my husband became a devoted father.  He wanted the best for our two boys and spared no effort or expense to ensure that they had everything they needed to succeed — just as he had done for me.

After he retired, my husband was able to devote himself to his many hobbies and interests.  We fell in love with cruises and began to travel throughout the world together.  We took cruises to Alaska, the Middle East, the Amazon, the Panama Canal, Russia, Tahiti, the Caribbean, and the British Isles.  During these trips, we grew even closer.  We also played bridge with our friends on a regular basis.  Although he was the better bridge player, he always enjoyed having me as his partner even when I misplayed a hand.  Perhaps his greatest love was digital photography.  He bought the best camera equipment he could find and taught himself how to use Photoshop and other photographic software.  He loved to take pictures of family and friends and delight them with his beautiful photos.  At Stephen and Jennifer’s wedding, he took two full album’s worth of photos, and those photos were even better than the photos shot by the professional photographer!

My husband was especially thrilled by the birth of our granddaughter, Karina.  He loved to make funny faces at her in order to get her to smile or laugh.  He also looked forward to doing the same with our future grandson.  Most recently, he was very excited about the upcoming wedding of our son, Danny, to his longtime girlfriend and fiancee, Soojung.

Su Min always used to tell me that we were “so good” for each other.  But I always felt that he did far more for me than I ever did for him and that  I was the lucky one.  I am just grateful that we had a happy and fulfilling life together.

Words cannot describe how much I miss him.    I am sure that he will continue to watch over me from heaven, and I look forward to being together with him again some day.
